Case Study S. 21

CDC NSW Bus Depot

Design and construction of a workshop, office, fuel bay, and wash bay canopies, for CDC NSW, a leading public transport provider in Rouse Hill, NSW.

Client: CDC NSW
Location: Rouse Hill, NSW
Value: $2.2–$2.5m
Dimensions: 4,021 m²
Completed: January 2025
The Client

CDC NSW is one of the leading providers of bus services in metropolitan and regional NSW, trusted for delivering safe, timely, and reliable public transport connections across the state. With population growth accelerating in Sydney’s northwest, CDC required new infrastructure to meet increasing operational demands.

DSD Group, the appointed builder, is a commercial construction company known for delivering high-quality projects across retail, commercial, and tenancy coordination sectors. Steelcorp was engaged early by DSD Group to provide design insights and deliver a complete steel package for the depot.

The Brief

As urban expansion in the Rouse Hill corridor put pressure on CDC’s ageing infrastructure, a new, purpose-built bus depot was essential. The client needed a fit-for-purpose facility that could support an expanding fleet with dedicated zones for servicing, washing, refuelling, and administration.

Steelcorp’s role was to help shape the initial building concept, optimise the structural layout, and deliver a high-quality steel package that aligned with CDC’s operational goals. The project required not just scale, but flexibility and efficiency built into every part of the design.

The Scope

Steelcorp delivered engineering, fabrication, and installation of over 4,000m² of structural steel infrastructure. The full scope included:

Workshop and Office Facility: A high-clearance workshop with multiple mezzanines and an integrated office building, designed for both vehicle maintenance and administrative operations.

Fuel Bay Canopy: A dedicated canopy for efficient and compliant vehicle refuelling.

Wash Bay Canopy: A covered wash zone to maintain fleet cleanliness and extend vehicle life.

Cantilevered Skillion Roof Awnings: Full-length side awnings to protect key workshop access points from the elements.

Internal Separated Storage Zones: Secure, clearly defined areas for parts and equipment to support safety and workflow.

Steelcorp also supplied and installed all cladding and rainwater systems, ensuring the structure was weather-tight and functional from day one. Working in collaboration with Eren Engineering and DSD Group, Steelcorp’s early involvement meant building efficiencies were captured from design through to delivery.

The Result

Completed in January 2025, the depot now provides CDC NSW with a modern, scalable operational hub. The facility enables CDC to better service the community with improved fleet turnaround times, streamlined maintenance workflows, and dedicated facilities for staff and vehicles alike.

By investing in clear work zone separations, weather protection, and future-ready infrastructure, the depot meets current needs while supporting long-term operational growth.

For DSD Group, Steelcorp’s turnkey steel package, valued between $2.2m–$2.5m, helped streamline the broader construction program and simplify coordination between trades.

This project is a showcase of how early collaboration, smart design, and high-quality steel solutions can deliver long-lasting value for essential service providers.
