The Client
<p class="rteBlock">Westbury Constructions is a Sydney based building company that delivers construction and infrastructure projects for the education sector. Steelcorp approached Westbury Constructions during the project tender phase and ultimately was the successful bidder to supply and install new sports cover for Hunter River High School in the Hunter River Region of NSW.</p>
The Brief
<p class="rteBlock">Hunter River High School needed a dual-court sports cover to provide an all-weather learning and play environment. The existing area was frequently disrupted by weather conditions, so they were looking for a structure that could endure rain, hail, and shine, ensuring that their school timetable remained unaffected by the elements.</p>
The Scope
<p class="rteBlock">Steelcorp's responsibilities for this project included the supply and installation of the new sports cover. Our scope included 3D shop drawings, structural steel manufacture, roofing and rainwater products, safe roof access, concrete foundations, and structure installation. By including as many elements and trades as possible into our scope, we ensured that Westbury Constructions could deliver the project quickly for their client without the friction and delays that can occur when dealing with multiple subcontractors.</p>
The Challenges
<p class="rteBlock">From early engagement, the risk of contaminated soil was an ongoing challenge that required close monitoring. Certain stages required inspection from a 3rd party to ensure proper processes were followed. This risk was professionally managed by all stakeholders.</p>
The Result
<p class="rteBlock">The new sports cover provides students and teachers at Hunter River High School with an all-weather area to learn, play, and socialise, ensuring uninterrupted use regardless of the weather. Sports covers are a functional way to improve student wellbeing, enhance sun safety and create a more inviting and functional school campus for students and staff.
