The Client

Delorean Corporation operates in the industrial processing and bioenergy sector, delivering renewable energy and organic waste solutions across Australia. Working with Yarra Valley Water at Lilydale, Delorean required a purpose-built processing facility that could support specialised waste handling and renewable energy operations, as part of a broader bioenergy infrastructure development.

The Brief

The brief was to deliver a new build, clearspan industrial processing building to lockup stage within an active bioenergy facility environment. The facility needed to provide the containment, durability, and operational efficiency required for high-volume organic waste handling, while meeting strict environmental and safety requirements.

Delorean required a partner that could coordinate structural steel, precast concrete, heavy duty concrete works, and inground drainage with tight control over compliance, constructability, and site interfaces.

The Scope

Steelcorp was engaged as the design and construct contractor to deliver the processing building to lockup stage. The scope included:

Clearspan Building Delivery: Structural steel framing designed to maximise internal processing space and equipment movement.

Concrete & Civil Works: Heavy duty concrete flooring and inground drainage suited to high organic load processing and washdown demands.

Precast & Containment: Precast concrete elements and reinforced perimeter bund walls engineered for environmental containment and regulatory compliance.

Impact-Resistant Processing Zones: Heavy duty internal bunker and push walls designed to withstand loader impact and sustained material handling loads.

Building Envelope & Weather Protection: Wall and roof cladding, rainwater goods, and cantilevered awnings to protect loading areas and maintain all-weather operation.

Operational Access: High speed industrial doors and roller shutter doors to improve vehicle flow and maintain internal environmental control.

Ventilation & Safety Controls: A purpose-designed ventilation system to manage odour, moisture, and potential gas build up within a high organic load environment.

The Result

The completed processing facility has strengthened day-to-day performance within Yarra Valley Water’s bioenergy site:

Operational Efficiency: A clearspan layout, high speed access, and protected loading zones support smoother vehicle movement and streamlined processing.

Built for Heavy Handling: Bunker and push walls deliver the durability needed for continuous loader activity and high-volume material movement.

Environmental Performance: Bunded containment, engineered drainage, and controlled ventilation improve compliance outcomes and site safety.

Future-Ready Capacity: The facility creates scalable infrastructure to manage increasing organic volumes and support long-term circular economy goals.

With this purpose-built processing building in place, Yarra Valley Water now have infrastructure that supports reliable, compliant operations today, and creates the platform for ongoing growth in renewable energy generation and organic waste recovery.
