Geelong Racing Club

<p class="rteBlock">Plan Group is an experienced Victorian construction management firm with decades of experience in commercial, education, healthcare and retail projects. </p><br><p class="rteBlock">With extensive experience in delivering high-end structures, Plan Group approached Steelcorp to partner with them on delivering a large stable complex for Geelong Racing Club. </p>

<p class="rteBlock">With the club’s growing need for additional space to care for the horses, the next step in their expansion plan was to build two large structures.</p><br><p class="rteBlock">Plan Group contacted Steelcorp because of the quality of structures we produce and our ability to meet the set timeframe on the project with a turnkey solution. </p><br><p class="rteBlock">Our visual illustrations of the project were also a key factor, enabling Plan Group to present a professional design to their client. </p><br><p class="rteBlock">Steelcorp undertook the concept to completion process for two large stable complexes, covering a total of 1,500m2.</p>

<p class="rteBlock">Steelcorp’s scope included design and construction of the twin structures, including providing engineering certification and computations. We also supplied structural steel model drawings as part of our design process. </p><br><p class="rteBlock">When it was time to erect the structure, Steelcorp supplied fabricated structural steel components which were hot dip galvanised for corrosion resistance. </p><br><p class="rteBlock">Our scope also included cladding, purlins and girts, Wonderglas GC skylights and the guttering and rainwater systems for both structures. </p>

<p class="rteBlock">Despite this being a large site, there were some access challenges to overcome which required some ingenuity. The builder proposed a roof lift using a multi-point crane lift, which proved to be a safe and successful way to complete this critical task. </p><br><p class="rteBlock">Additionally, some late changes to the scope had the potential to hold up the project, however due to the flexible design of the two structures, this proved to be an easy fix on site. The installation team was able to adjust the mesh vents to the required size of 400mm without issue. </p>

<p class="rteBlock">This project for Geelong Racing Club has enabled the growing organisation to adequately care for and shelter their racehorses, adding much-needed stable space and contributing to the professional image of the club.  </p>
