The Client

Crow Constructions is a leading Commercial Building Contractor located in Shepparton, Victoria. The firm specialises in a vast range of construction projects including Retail, Commercial, Education, Health, Aged Care, Industrial, Government Housing and Multi-Unit Developments.

Crow Constructions was engaged by O’Connors, a market leader in the supply of agricultural machinery and a specialist in CASE IH equipment. O’Connors had outgrown their previous location and a lack of space was restricting the growth of the business, so Crow Constructions worked with Steelcorp to design a spacious new workshop and showroom.

The Brief

The team at O’Connors needed specific design features included in their 3,500m2 commercial structure.

The 92 metre long building has been designed to accommodate a gantry crane and incorporates a 12m cantilever awning along one side of the building to create a practical outdoor storage and work space that is protected from rain.

Steelcorp’s design team was tasked with adding additional features including front and side cantilevered entrance awnings, an internal mezzanine floor that runs the width of the building, façade fins, and striking Colorbond ‘Astro Metallic’ features to create a unique finish.

The Scope

Steelcorp was engaged to supply the fabricated hot dipped galvanised steel package, purlins and girts, external steel cladding and internal structural partition walls. Our team also looked after the 3D structural steel drawings, engineering certificate and computations.

This structure package included industrial roller shutters, industrial fire egress compliant access doors, guttering and above-ground rainwater systems, roof insulation and skylights. A customised office mezzanine floor and architectural office fin framework and awnings added a unique style to the building and offered plenty of practical office space.

Structural glazing support beams allowed large windows to let plenty of natural light into the building, and a large cantilevered canopy with a box gutter system created a functional outdoor space that was protected from harsh weather.

The Challenges

Throughout this build, the weather presented significant challenges, however our install team was able to mitigate lost time and keep the project on track. Using efficient installation methods including sectional roof structure lifts, where the frame is built in sections on the ground and then lifted into place, ensured continued momentum throughout construction.

The Result

The O’Connors team have now settled into their new premises, with ample space available for storage, production, and maintenance, as well as a professional showroom and modern offices. The new purpose-built facility will dramatically increase efficiency for the business, allowing the thriving dealership to continue on its growth journey.
