Frequently Asked Questions

Our team is happy to answer any questions you may have about sheds or how our business operates. Here’s a good starting point for those considering building a steel structure with Steelcorp.

  • Do your sheds have a warranty?

Steelcorp offers a lifetime structural warranty on our structures. For further advice about our warranty visit our news section here.

  • What areas do you service?

Steelcorp’s head office is based in Wangaratta, North East Victoria with a second location in Penrith, NSW. Most of our customers are based in NSW and Victoria however, we have provided structures right across Australia. Contact us directly to discuss your needs and we will work on a plan to make it happen.

  • What frame designs does Steelcorp offer?

We offer a variety of frame designs to suit your application. Common designs are:

    • Open-web truss rafters with UB columns – our preferred frame offering the strongest and most reliable structure.
    • RHS/SHS – perfect for structures such as equine barns and stables. Typically used in spans up to 18m.
    • Purlin frame – found in smaller structures, a more economical option.

Learn more about the key differences between these frames in our news section here.

  • What size buildings does Steelcorp specialise in?

We work best with structures featuring a footprint that exceeds 500m2. This typically means a starting span of 15m right through to 60m, all featuring a clear span. The main constraints on a structure relate back to the span, so as a result the length is somewhat unrestricted. See some of our completed projects here.

  • Can Steelcorp assist with council permits?

Yes, our team is available to assist with obtaining council approval before getting your project underway. We are well equipped to handle the Building Permit process (for projects in Victoria) and in NSW, these are known as Construction Certificates. If your project requires additional approvals (Planning Permit in Victoria or Development Application in NSW) we can provide you with available information to help you through the process. To learn more about the approval process in depth click here.

  • How long does council approval take?

Approval times will vary from council to council and can often be determined by the complexity of the project and the type of approval needed. We recommend speaking with your council before submission to allow all required information to be accurately compiled. This helps reduce multiple information requests/submissions. We’ve also put together an informative webinar series, SteelTalk, which explores this area of the approval process. View here.

  • Tell me about hot dip galvanising and does Steelcorp recommend this?

Hot dip galvanising is a process that helps protect the critical structural components (steel columns & trusses) of your shed. The iron is cleaned before being immersed in a bath of molten zinc that has a temperature of around 450 degrees celsius. Whilst the iron is immersed, a metallurgical reaction occurs forming a bond between the iron and the zinc. This bond helps protect the iron from rust and corrosion, increasing the longevity of your structure. This process is recommended by Steelcorp.

  • What different cladding profiles are available?

At Steelcorp we offer a variety of roof and wall cladding profiles, depending on the application:

    • Monoclad® – with a strong and economical profile, Monoclad cladding is ideal for industrial or agricultural buildings.
    • Corrugated – a traditional profile used to suit a variety of applications.
    • Horizontal Corrugated – a versatile wall cladding that brings architectural features to life.
    • K-Panel® – with a low profile, K-Panel’s wide cover cladding is ideal for smaller buildings and sheds.

Each of these profiles are available in either Colorbond® or Zincalume finish.

  • What colours can I choose from?

You have the option between Colorbond® or a Zincalume® finish for your shed. We offer the full range of Colorbond® colours and encourage you to mix and match the colour of your roof, walls, doors and gutters to achieve the perfect look for your project.

  • If I order my shed now, when will it be delivered?

Once all approvals are received, we offer a standard lead time of about eight weeks.

  • Can I erect the shed myself?

The short answer is yes. However we have experienced install teams that can professionally erect your shed and we suggest you leave it up to the experts. If you feel you are well equipped, we are happy to provide the shed kit only, along with detailed drawings to assist with assembly.
